About

My name is Esther and I am a ceramicist based in the Netherlands. I produce mainly functional tableware. Most of the ceramics I make is wheel thrown, but I do make handbuilt pieces as well. I have my own studio space, where every piece is created with lots of care.

I started with ceramics some years ago and immediatly fell in love with the process of making. From start to finish, from raw clay to a high fired stoneware piece. To learn more about the craft I started a 3 year course at the Dutch Ceramic School in Gouda, the Netherlands. I successfully completed this study in 2024.

In my work I like to carve the clay, so you have an interesting surface to touch. Colours like green, brown, pink and blue are used. Every piece is one of a kind, which makes the handmade aspect visible. Everything is made with food safe glazes. I use mainly commercial glazes, but I am working on good usable glazes for my products from scratch. This takes time and patience.

Crafts have always fascinated me. From spinning wool, weaving to sewing and clay. That's why next to ceramics, I also make handmade woven textiles, for example tea towels, table runners and bookmarks. This is a side project, so there aren't always items available.

A handmade object that is made with care and attention can bring a little joy into everyday life, I hope my handmade products do the same.

I sell my products mainly online and at markets. If you want to visit a market or check out what I'm doing, follow me on instagram @esther.van.ravens.ceramics or @esther.van.ravens.weaving or subscribe to the mailing list at the bottom of this page.
