Workshops

With your hands covered in clay. Be creative and enjoy the feeling of the clay through your hands. It doesn't matter if you are a child or an adult, playing with clay is for all ages.

Although my focus is on wheelthrowing, you're welcome to try handbuilding as well. I'll guide you to create something you'll be proud of. Please note that items need to be fired first, so decorating your pieces is usually done in a separate session or as part of a short course. If you only want to book a workshop,
I will glaze the items in a glaze of your choice.

The workshops take place in my studio in Capelle aan den IJssel, the Netherlands.

    Workshop adult

    Do you want to know how it feels behind a potter's wheel? Then this workshop is for you!

    A workshop for adults behind the potter's wheel is for a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 3 people. This workshop is suitable for ages 16 years and up. The workshop takes about 2,5 hours and I will learn you the basics on the wheel.

    You can make up to 4 items per person, that will be fired. I will trim the items and glaze them if you don't choose to decorate the items yourself in an additional session. I have glaze samples available, which you can choose from. Every extra item you want to keep and have fired and glazed, will be € 7,50 extra.

    If you like, you can also add an extra day of 2 hours to decorate or paint your pieces, ideal to personalize your creations. This extra day can be scheduled at the earliest two weeks after the workshop, to allow the pieces to dry and be fired once before decorating. I will trim the items before this first firing.

    Clay, glazes, the firing, use of the wheel and tools and my guidance are included. Because I have 3 pottery wheels and therefore cannot give a wheel-throwing workshop to more than 3 people at the same time, you will receive optimal guidance. Tea, coffee and biscuits are included.

    Short courses (3 or 4 days)

    If you'd like to dive a bit deeper into working with clay, I offer 3- or 4-day courses with each session lasting 2,5 hours. These courses are perfect if you want to learn, practice, and complete your own pieces. Perfect for beginners and more experienced makers alike.

    Course schedule & pricing:

    3-day course - € 210,- per person:

    -Day 1: Wheel-throwing, start creating your forms.

    -Day 2: Trimming, start refining your pieces by trimming and adding textures.

    Day 3: Decorating, finish your pots by adding colour, or painting figures and designs.

    4-day course - € 260,- per person:

    Day 1 & 2: Wheel-throwing, start creating your forms.

    Day 2 & 3: Trimming, start refining your pieces by trimming and adding textures.

    Workshops for Groups (up to 6 people)

    Do you want to have a fun and creative experience with family, friends or colleagues? Then this is the workshop for you!

    This workshop is for a minimum of 4 people ans a maximum of 6 people. It combines wheel-throwing and handbuilding, with an hour spent on the wheel and the other 2 hours on handbuilding. Because handbuilding is included, it's helpful to have an idea of what you want to create beforehand. The workshop lasts 3 hours and I will guide you through both techniques.

    You can make up to 3 items on the wheel and 1 hand-build items per person, that will be fired. If you don't choose to decorate the items yourself in a additional session, I will trim the items and glaze them. I have glaze samples available, which you can choose from. Every extra item you want to keep and have fired and glazed, will be € 7,50 extra.

    This workshop is open to both children and adults, and the group pricing is the same regardless of age. For groups of children only, please scroll to the birthday party kids option below.

    Workshop adult and child

    When you and a child want to get behind the wheel, you can book a workshop with your child or your nice/nephew/child next door, etc.

    I have space for 3 people. You can make a combination of 2 adults and 1 child or 1 adult and 1 or 2 children age 7 to 15 years old.

    The workshop takes about 2,5 hours and I will learn you the basic on the wheel. For children it is usually harder to get the clay centered, but of course I will be there to help.

    Birthday party kids

    Does your child like to get the hands dirty? And does your child likes a creative birthday party? Then maybe this is the perfect party for your child!

    A birthday party for 6 children will take about 2 hours. They will hand-build an item, for example a fantasy figure, a monster or a small pot and they will get behind the wheel for a short time. I have 3 wheels available, so they will take turns.

    For children from 7 years.

    The children can glaze the hand-build items with underglaze in the colours they like.

    Clay, glazes, firing of the two items, use of the wheel and tools and my guidance are included. Also included are lemonade and a small treat, you can choose between crisps or cookies.

    Price:

    This birthday package costs € 220,- in total.
